From Old French < Latin sollicitudo (“anxiety”) < sollicitus, solicitus (“anxious, solicitous”); see solicitous.

solicitude (usually uncountable; plural solicitudes)
- The state of being solicitous; uneasiness of mind occasioned by fear of evil or desire for good; anxiety.
- A feeling of excessive concern.
